HPC Wales, to be based at the Universities of Cardiff and Swansea, will offer new firms access to training and consultancy services as well as to computing resources.
It will also pave the way for new research and development projects to take place in the area, providing the necessary skills and technology.
The £44 million institute is being paid for by a £10 million grant from the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills’ Strategic Investment Fund, with the rest made up from European Union funding, higher education institutions in Wales and the private sector.
This means creating the right conditions for enterprise and maintaining the UK’s position as one of the best places in the world to start and grow a business.

"HPC Wales will give firms access to supercomputing resources and also offer consultancy services and tailored training packages to enhance workforce skills.

Among the development opportunities to be offered by HPC Wales are Masters-level training courses and workshops for staff members.
Internships will also be provided in order to transfer expertise between HPC Wales and businesses, and to expand the links between the institute and the business community.
