Film invites companies to thriving York

An image of film makers at work

A short film encouraging businesses to invest in York has been praised.

York Means Business, an eight-minute film designed to persuade businesses to relocate to the city, will help York “get out there and sell the benefits of the city in a highly competitive world”, according to council leader Andrew Waller.

The film, made by Christopher David of York-based Flash Frame Productions, shows ‘a vibrant city’ that is not just a place of historical importance and has great potential to develop in the 21st century.

Mr David said York Means Business had two key aims: “Firstly, to blow apart the negative myths and preconceptions that so many people have about life in the north, and secondly to replace those preconceptions with positive views of a brilliant city, with great people in a beautiful region.”

He continued: “York has so much to offer growing businesses: York is more cost-effective than the south east. We have brilliant transport links across the UK and Europe. First class schools, and an extensive pool of talent and skills helped, not least, by two world-class universities and great colleges.”

Chief executive of inward investment agency york-england.com Denis Stuart was pleased that York was being proactively promoted and said: “The DVD will enable york-england.com to continue the very important role of attracting business and growing the economy to create jobs for our local people.”

The film was created as part of newspaper The Press’ campaign to support the region’s economy during the economic downturn.
