The figures posted by MIDAS, Manchester’s inward investment agency, shows a record number of jobs were created in Greater Manchester during the year and 19 more than the previous year.
It is the second time that MIDAS, which aims to secure significant levels of new investment and employment for the city region, has exceeded its job target of 3,000.
A significant number of the positions have been at the Bank of New York Mellon, which has recruited 500 new workers over the period, but a number of other leading companies have also invested in the region.

Law firm Shoosmiths has also opened a new office in the city and Lockton and Swinton insurance companies have announced their intentions to recruit a further 200 workers.
But it is not just private sector companies that are being attracted to the area by MIDAS.
The UK Borders Agency has received further investment for its Manchester office allowing it to create 250 jobs and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) is expanding to create 140 new positions.

Colin Sinclair, Chief Executive of MIDAS, said: "Amidst a backdrop of global economic turmoil, once again MIDAS has exceeded its inward investment targets. Against all the odds it has been an impressive year in which MIDAS built on previous success, retained a significant number of jobs vital to the continued success of the city and attracted new investment from established firms and foreign-owned companies.
