Aerospace companies and universities in Wales will be encouraged by a new research facility to form closer collaborations.
The launch of EADS UK's Innovation Work in Newport on January 14th will see the centre join the manufacturer's development network, which has bases in locations such as Paris, Moscow and Singapore.

In addition, an event held on the same day will look to identify businesses and academic institutions in Wales which can work with EADS UK on world-class research projects for the defence market.
The Newport base will focus on creating secure surveillance and control systems to be used at large-scale events such as the Ryder Cup and the Olympics, as well as major civil emergencies.

In related news, EADS announced last month that its Portsmouth facility has won a contract to supply the Royal Australian Navy with satellite communications terminals.
