A new framework will develop the UK's copyright system to further protect the interests of creative individuals and companies.

The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) is consulting with key players from the sector to establish an agenda that supports investment, innovation and job creation.
According to the organisation, the copyright system is vital to the future success of the UK's creative industry, as well as the artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers and entrepreneurs who operate in it.
The sector employs 1.9 million people and creates around seven per cent of the country's gross domestic product.

Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, applauded the UK for "pioneering a global and inclusive approach" to copyright issues in an increasingly digital environment.
Earlier this year, the IPO launched a drive to encourage Britain's small and medium-sized businesses to protect their intellectual assets.
