A meeting has been held to examine ways to boost the mass production of low-carbon and electric vehicles.
Government officials and automotive industry representatives attended the London event to look at ways to make the UK a world leader in the green motoring revolution and identify the main technological challenges and opportunities it could present.
It is also expected that the findings of the meeting will be reported at the G8 Energy Forum in Japan in November and the London Energy Summit in December, which both have green transport development on their agendas.
Ian Pearson, Business Minister, commented: "The Government is committed to bring lower-carbon vehicles to Britain's roads as soon as possible. We need to act now to ensure that the UK is at the forefront of this new industry.

The Minister also said Britain has a global reputation for automotive research, design engineering and manufacturing and claimed the electric car technology sector presents the UK with opportunities to capitalise on this.
Last month, EDF Energy announced it will work with Toyota to test plug-in hybrid vehicles in the UK, which will build on previous research conducted in Europe.
