All English universities and higher education colleges have been assessed in terms of their strategies to engage and support businesses and the wider community, in order for them to qualify for the Higher Education Innovation Fund round four.

Institutions which are approved will receive a share of the £396 million which has been earmarked for 2008-11 by HEFCE and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.
The funds will be used to support a variety of programmes, including knowledge transfer activity and work with small to medium-sized enterprises.

Earlier this year, HEFCE unveiled the £30 million Revolving Green Fund, which will provide grants to institutions that are attempting to adopt a carbon-neutral approach.
