The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform has announced employee engagement expert David MacLeod and Nita Clarke, Director of the Participation Association, will lead the study.

Among the aims of the review are to examine the way firms can engage with their staff to improve productivity, examine the personal and wider economic benefits of employee engagement and identify any potential barriers to this.

Mr MacLeod also highlighted the benefits of engagement and said the review could provide "huge gains" for the UK economy with suggestions of how to improve this, while Ms Clarke described it as being "crucial" for employee welbeing and personal development.
According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, employee engagement goes beyond motivation and job satisfaction, resulting in a commitment to the organisation.
