The new Environmental Energy Technology Centre (EETC), near Rotherham and Sheffield, will have all its energy provided by a 225kW wind turbine which is being constructed on the site, according New Energy Focus.

A built-in hydrogen fuel cell will allow the turbine to power the centre even when the wind is not blowing.
Jason Stoyel, Technical Manager for consultancy TNEI, which is leading the project, told the news provider that the turbine will be "supplying all the electricity over and above the building's needs".
"The excess will be turned into hydrogen and stored for use at a later date," he explained.

When operational, the system will be the UK's largest wind-to-hydrogen turbine and could lead the development of other alternative fuel sources.
Developed by the regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, the EETC is intended to attract energy-related firms to the area's Advanced Manufacturing Park.
The centre will house Europe's only early-stage clean technology business accelerator and will provide incubation and support services to renewable-energy companies.
