The Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) says the introduction of a regulatory budget system will provide firms with greater certainty over future regulation and better controlled associated costs.

Keeping the regulatory burden on business relatively light could help to attract inward investment into our sector and others

Richard Wilson, chief executive officer of the trade body, Tiga, backed the move and called it an “innovative approach”, noting that businesses have experienced an increased regulatory burden over recent years.
He commented: "The UK games development sector competes on quality, not price.
"Yet keeping the regulatory burden on business relatively light could help to attract inward investment into our sector and others.
Regulation in the UK
Mr Wilson also called for the regulatory budgets to include indirect as well as direct costs and suggested including costs from independent regulators.
Founded in 2001, Tiga works to represent the UK computer games industry and supports firms in the sector with its Best Practice Handbook.
The organisation also provides networking opportunities in domestic and international markets and negotiates discounts for services such as legal, finance and insurance.
