County Durham-based Analytical NanoTechnologies (ANTnano) will use the funding to develop chemical detection technology to identify the presence of airborne bird flu, according to the North East Journal.
The firm, which is a spin-out business from Sunderland University, is channelling increased amounts of funding into the project.
It has raised more than £100,000 by signing a distribution deal with Manchester-based company Microarray.
