Initiative to drive film innovation

The 12 independent film companies which will take part in the Digital Innovation in Film scheme have been named by the UK Film Council and Nesta.

Under the programme, the selected businesses, which include BreakThru Films, Revolver Entertainment and Mosaic Films, will work with experts who specialise in digital media to allow them to present their products in innovative ways.

Digital Innovation in Film, which is run by both organisations alongside various screen agencies, intends to further the business growth of UK film companies by opening them up to new distribution opportunities.

John Woodward, Chief Executive Officer of the UK Film Council, commented: "The digital world is already having a huge impact on the film industry.”

"This initiative is important because it helps to equip a diverse range of different film businesses to succeed on the new frontier" he added.

Jon Kingsbury, Nesta's Creative Economy Programme Director, also said independent film firms are the "bedrock" of the UK's creative sector and suggested the initiative could help the position of Britain as a "key player" in the international film sector.
