County Durham-based BioToolomics specialises in bioseparation, or a process which separates chemicals to purify them, and has developed an innovative new product.
The firm's new 'resin technology' chromotography column is claimed to be up to 100 times more efficient than other solutions and can be used to create drugs based on antibodies, vaccines and enzymes.
BioToolomics used an award of £65,000 from the Three Pillar Fund and £140,000 of financing from loans and grants to develop the product.

Dr Chad Zhang, who set up the business two years ago, told the newspaper: "This is a huge advantage for development and production use in the pharmaceutical industry.
He also revealed that the firm, which is based at the Consett Innovation Centre, aims to launch the product onto the market over the next year.

The Consett Innovation Centre is designed to support start-up ventures and provides them with business and technical support to grow their operations.
