The project, called Forth Energy, will see the generation of renewable energy at Forth Port's locations in England and Scotland, as well as excess electricity being sold back to the national grid.
A range of technologies will be deployed by Forth Energy, including onshore and offshore wind and biomass power generation, with projects capable of creating a total of 150 megawatts (MW) of electricity already identified by the firms.

Commenting on the announcement, Scottish Energy Minister Jim Mather said: "The joint venture has the potential to deliver innovative renewable energy solutions providing sustainable energy for use at Forth Ports' sites and for commercial sale.
He also suggested the development complements the Government's strategy to increase the use of renewable technology in Scotland.
Last week, SSE welcomed the Government's consultation into renewables, noting increased use of such technologies will help the UK to tackle climate change and provide the country with energy security.
