Speaking at the Low Carbon Economy Summit at London's Tate Modern, Energy Minister John Hutton laid out the Government's commitment to generating 15 per cent of the UK's energy needs from renewable sources by 2020.

Mr Hutton also suggested that the country should aim to capitalise on the emerging 'green economy' and proposed "creating a new generation of green collar jobs".
"I strongly believe the UK has what it takes to be a global leader in becoming a low carbon economy [and] a world class centre of energy expertise and a leading location for international inward investment," he commented.

Mr Hutton's comments came as the government launched its Renewable Energy Strategy consultation, which aims to establish how the UK will maximise its use of sustainable energy.
