VT Group will deliver up to 60,000 hours of flying each year under the deal, which renews and expands on the Light Aircraft Flying Task contract which the firm already has with the forces.

The Elementary Flying Training contract will run for a minimum of five years, while the other two will be for at least ten years.

Paul Lester, VT Group chief executive, commented: "This will further strengthen our role as the UK military's leading provider of flying training by consolidating and extending the work that we currently carry out.

The firm was originally established as a shipbuilder, yet has grown to deliver services across a range of sectors including communications, equipment supports and training, with more than 75 per cent of its current business coming from areas other than shipbuilding.
