Tokyo nano tech 2008 will welcome 18 UK companies this week.
The firms are among 500 exhibitors at the trade event which is expected to attract 50,000 visitors from the international nanotechnology industry.

They are high-tech firms, closely integrated with the strong UK research and development base.

One UK firm attending the show, Intrinsiq, recently revealed a nanotechnology compound that could potentially kill MRSA, H5N1 and E.coli.
Intrinsiq, along with the other 17 British firms, has been supported by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).
Andrew Cahn, UKTI’s chief executive, believes the participating companies highlight the strength of the country's research and development base.

"They are hi-tech firms, closely integrated with the strong UK research and development base. It is no surprise that many of the UK companies are university spin-outs or are attached to university science departments in some way.

The nano tech 2008 conference takes place February 13-15.
