Vascutek uses innovative vascular technologies to develop products for the treatment of heart disease.
Its Japanese parent company Terumo is extending Vascutek’s operations in Innichan, Scotland to manufacture its new endovascular device, the Anaconda.
Simplifying heart surgery
The company uses both textile and plastics technology to produce a wide range of vascular prosthetic grafts for the treatment of diseased and damaged arteries.
The Anaconda enables surgeons to treat vascular disease using less invasive techniques.
Modern techniques like these can mean less post-operative complications and a quicker recovery time for patients.
Regional grant supports innovation
Terumo’s £5 million investment has been backed by almost £1.5 million of regional funding.
"Terumo Corporation is one of the most innovative medical device companies,” said Denis Taylor, director of trade and investment for Scottish Development International (SDI).
“SDI has worked closely both with Terumo Corporation in Japan and with Vascutek Terumo here in Scotland to support its investment in facilities and people, product development and impressive growth rate,” he added.
