There are a growing number of specialist nanotechnology companies in the UK and over 1,500 research scientists focusing on the development of nanotechnology.

This new approach to manufacturing attracts many international investors developing commercial applications from nanotechnologies. Among the most famous companies are Oxonica, Hitachi, Elan, Nanoco and Solexa.

The UK Government has a strong track record in supporting the development of the UK nanotechnology industry including a £90 million, six-year programme for nanotechnology R&D.
